Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa- Big hello to you all. We have had a fun time learning waiata, practicing our ti rakau skills, and reading about Maui this week. Here is a peek at what we were up to: Craig and Mathias proudly sharing their pictures of Te Ra (from Maui and The Sun).

Malo e le lei, from Room 22! This week all classes were set a challenge: to create a Tongan outfit to wear in a parade on Friday. Room 22 learnt about Tongan patterns and the meaning behind them, and practised drawing them. Inetoa's Tongan Patterns We then created a class ngatu (tongan tapa) which was used as a 'taovala'. We used some previously created paper feathers to make a 'kiekie' - the piece around the waist. Our creation- Proudly modelled by Jemima Tuipulotu. We have had a wonderful time learning about the beautiful Tongan culture!

WE DO!!! Today we have been learning to solve addition problems by splitting a number to make a tidy number. We looooove learning new strategies and growing our maths brain! Jose, Matthias, and Jordan practicing the 'tidy number' strategy. There is a cool video of the Jose and Matthias teaching Jordan the strategy (as he was absent prior) but it wont load... sorry! Will work on getting it here! :)

Things were a little bit wacky here at school today... Today we said goodbye to our very special Whaea Mereana. Two representatives from every junior class joined together on stage and performed the actions to the popular Toy Story song "You've got a Friend in Me". "When the road seems rough ahead,  and your miles and miles from your nice warm bed.  Just remember what your old pal said,  you've got a friend in me".  The Junior School 'Toys' getting ready to perform for Whaea Mereana. Jose as Buzz Lightyear Leighara as Slinky Dog Inetoa (on knees) as an Alien (filling in for an absent student) What a fun item for a sad occasion.
